JEE

  • Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main is conducted to offer admissions to interested candidates in undergraduate engineering programmes at NITs (National Institutes of Technology), IIITs (Indian Institutes of Information Technology) and other centrally funded technical institutions (CFTIs) located across the country.
  • JEE Main Paper-1 evaluates the aptitude of candidates who want to pursue BE/BTech at NITs, IIITs and CFTIs. This exam is also the eligibility test for JEE advanced which is the entrance exam to secure admissions in programmes on offer by 16 IITs and Indian School of Mines (ISM). The top 1,50,000 score holders in JEE Main are only eligible to apply for JEE Advanced exam.

  1. What is JEE (MAIN)?
    JEE (MAIN) – Joint Entrance Examinations (Main) is an all India common entrance examination Conducted by CBSE for admission in various engineering courses in NITs, IIITs and other CFTI ,participating State Government funded institutions and many other self financed institutions

  2. What are NITs, IIITs, and CFTIs? Is JEE Main the only Way to get admission in these institutes?
    NIT – National Institute Of Technology
    IIIT - Indian Institute of Information Technology
    CFTI- Centrally Funded Technical Institutes
    Admission to these institutions is based on the performance in the class 12/equivalent qualifying Examination and in the Joint Entrance Examination, JEE (Main). Merit List Prepared with 40% of Normalized 12th board Marks and 60% of JEE Main Score

  3. Is there any other reason to write JEE Main?
    JEE Main is the first stage of the Joint entrance Examination, the two tier examination – JEE Main and JEE Advanced, Previously Known as AIEEE and IIT JEE respectively. While Admission in NITs, IIITs and CFTIs are Governed by JEE Main, admission to Indian Institute of Technology (IIT)s is based on JEE Advanced. The Paper-1 (B. E./B. Tech.) of JEE (Main) will also be an eligibility test for the JEE (Advanced), which the candidate has to take if he/she is aspiring for admission to the undergraduate programmes offered by the IITs

  4. Which all States are participating in JEE Main system?
    The States of Jharkhand, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Nagaland and Odisha have joined JEE (Main) system. Therefore, the candidates seeking admission to the institutions in these states, which were earlier admitting based on their State Level Examination, are also advised to fill in the JEE (Main) - 2017 application form online

  5. Who All can write JEE Main?
    a) The minimum academic qualification for appearing in JEE Mains is that the candidate must have passed in final examination of class XII or its equivalent referred to as the qualifying examination.
    b) Those appearing in class XII final or equivalent examination may also appear in JEE Mains examination provisionally.
    c) Candidates must have passed 5 subjects in their Class XII with Language, Physics and Mathematics as Compulsory subjects must have studied any one of the subjects as optional subjects – Chemistry, Computer Science, Biology and Bio-technology and any other one subject
    d) Candidates appeared Class XII in the year of admission/passed Class XII in the year previous to the year of admission are only eligible to write. However, there may be change in the Maximum number of attempts
    e) Candidates’ should be less than 25 years of age as on 1st October of the year of admission, a relaxation of 5 years is given to candidates belonging to SC/ST/PwD category
    Note: the criteria for the states of Maharashtra, Odisha and Gujarat will be as per their past practices.

  6. I am studying in a Tamil Nadu state board school, can I write JEE Main?, Can I get a seat in Tamil Nadu colleges through it?

  7. I am a Tamil Nadu state Board student, can I compete at National Level with CBSE Students?
    JEE Main exam is based on the broad syllabus of class XI and XII followed by most of the boards. It tests students for their basic understanding of the subject and ability to comprehend and analyze. These skills are not dependent on which board you studying with, rather depends on your inherent IQ and seriousness of your Preparation. You need to have a focused preparation which would involve extensive practice and thorough testing and analysis to qualify in this exam.

  8. What is the pattern of the Exam?
    There are two papers respectively for BE/B.Tech and B.Arch/B.Planning courses

  9. When is this exam held? When does the application start?
    The exam is generally in the month of april. Application starts in month of November

  10. What is the difference between offline and online exam?
    Online is a computer based test, where the students have to go to the designated test centre take the real time test on a computer. Offline is the normal pen and paper test, where the students have to fill the OMR sheet. The test centersof major cities offer only online mode of Exam. Presently Coimbatore have both online and offline mode.

  11. Is it mandatory to write the paper II?
    No, only if you plan to take up B.Arch/B.Planning course, you need to write paper II.

  12. How many candidates appear for JEE(MAIN)
    Approximately 13.56 lakhs of candidates appeared in JEE(MAIN) 2017.

  13. How many seats are offered through JEE(MAIN)
    Seats in 30 NITs : 15,485 Seats in other Participating Colleges : 10000(Approx) –This figure may change year to year

  14. Is there any Reservation for candidates of Tamil Nadu State in NIT-Trichy?
    Yes, NITs admission policy is based on Home and Other state quota. 50% of the seats are reserved for the Home state students. Two separate merit list of All India Rank and State Rank are published.

  15. How do I prepare for this exam? JEE(MAIN) is the most sought after engineering entrance exam written. It is also the gateway to write JEE (Advanced) for admissions in IITs (Top 1.5 Lakh students are eligible). Hence, focused aspiring candidates prepare for this exam very seriously. Starting early and regular practice is the crux of clearing this exam. Ideally one should start preparing from class IX, to get a very good all India rank, however a focused preparation of two years (XI and XII), is essential for it. Intensive preparation and extensive practice are required from the day 1 of 11th standard. Apart from knowing the concepts well there should be ample practice of writing tests in various patterns. A proper analysis of tests to know the mistakes and take immediate corrective measure is very important.
